Company Info

Traffic and Parking Surveys (TAPS) specialises in providing detailed transportation data collection surveys for municipalities, state government agencies, consultants and developers.

History
TAPS staff has combined decades of experience in undertaking transportation data collection surveys.
In 1998 the original traffic surveys business was established as a division of John Piper Traffic Pty Ltd (JPT).  Key projects undertaken involved arterial road surveys to support the traffic modelling and analysis for the Melbourne CityLink Project. For this world-class road infrastructure project traffic surveys were made throughout Melbourne over a number of years to establish the baseline of data for the period leading up to the opening, and again after.

Over time TAPS grew to service municipalities and state government departments and in 2007 JPT was acquired by CPG Australia. On 1st July 2010 the traffic surveys business was acquired by TAPS, led again by Mr. John Piper.

The transfer of the surveys business into a dedicated company allows TAPS to respond to market demands more efficiently and effectively in this specialised area of consulting, particularly in deploying new technologies and techniques that support data collection.

As of 1st of July 2013 Mr. Piper transferred control of TAPS to a trio of Directors: Stephen Cropley (Transmetric), Roger Trewenack & Andy Li. Details of the leadership team can be found under the “Staff” heading.  This change brings with it a strong alliance with Transmetric software and services.
